Coastal Commission: "Protect Your Happy Place" by Cleaning It Up
Hey, FIDO members who are wondering what you can do to help our off-leash area on Fiesta Island during COVID, here you go!
As you've probably noticed, FIDO has had to cancel all of our traditional I Love a Clean San Diego cleanups in 2020 -- we normally do three a year. Our most recent cleanup event was October 2019, and we probably won't be able to do another one until early 2021, if then.
But that doesn't mean cleanup isn't needed! The beaches are being used heavily and Fiesta Island is extremely popular.
This year, the California Coastal Commission is expanding its usual Coastal Cleanup Day
to the entire month of September, and we'd like to invite all of our members to participate. There are no large, centrally organized cleanups this year. Instead, every day that you can in September, please bring along extra bags when you visit the island and pick up any trash you see -- or a few of those extra poop piles that sometimes get overlooked.
As the official Coastal Commission cleanup poster says, "Protect Your Happy Place!"
If you can, get a picture of you cleaning up and post it to our Facebook
or Instagram (Fiesta_Island_Dog_Owners) page so we can all celebrate our fantastic FIDO members, and everything we all do to protect our fenced, leash-free area on Fiesta Island.
We encourage our members to maintain safe spacing from others, wear masks when appropriate, and otherwise follow all city and county guidelines in order ensure our park remains open.
FIDO is a California 501(c)3 non-profit corporation run by volunteers dedicated to protecting and improving the fenced off-leash dog park on Fiesta Island.
